What are the legal responsibility's of a father?

Would he have to pay for all of the child's medical costs, and for stuff like dippers, clothing , etc. I'm out of work , and he's not. Also would he legally have to spend time with the child. I really want our baby to have a relationship with his father, and while i'm looking for work it would be nice to leave him with family instead of a stranger. He has weekends off , and if he would watch the baby Friday afternoon , and Saturday while I look for work , and hopefully find a job. Then he wouldn't have to pay as much to take care of the baby. But he doesn't want to watch the baby , or pay for anything. His excuse is he didn't want the kid. What can I do legally , and if you have any advice for how i can get throw to him that would be nice to. It seams like every time i try to talk to him he just shuts me out , and makes everything my fault. I can admit I made mistakes , but he doesn't even want to see that. It's become this vicious cycle that makes me want to smack him.
