You shouldn't have to. If he distrusts you that badly, then he either needs to work on fixing that with you instead of making accusations or walk away. And frankly, if he thinks he's got a right to go poking around in your journal and holding things you did before you'd made a commitment over your head, I'd strongly consider walking away yourself.
